Ryan Ludwick Homers- StLToday

This week, as promised, we will examine players who had a surprisingly great season, and what the chances are for a repeat performance in 2009.  Players in this category are important to study because they will go early in draft leagues, and command a fairly high price in auction leagues.  For keeper leagues, should you “sell high,” or count on that player(s) to be a cornerstone for next season and beyond?  Here is my analysis on several National League players that resemble the previous remarks:

Pujols and Berkman- Icon SMI

The hot stove is just starting to burn so let’s take an early winter look at first base. Of course there are a lot of questions that still need to be answered. Injuries need to be sorted out and free agent signings need to be made (Teixeira is the prime example). I always look for very good production across four categories (AVG, HR, RBI and R) at this position with stolen bases being found elsewhere. Chris Davis of Texas and Joey Votto of Cincinnati seem to be the only new impacts at the position. This list includes players that played 20 or more games at first base in the major leagues for 2008. The rankings are based on 2009 projections with extra value given to multi positional players. With the exception of Davis, I don’t see this list changing dramatically if it was for a keeper league.

October #1 Prospect

Here is the list of Top 75 prospects to own in your deep keeper fantasy pool. This is not a reflection of a player’s actual upside in the MLB, but more of an indicator of his value in pools. It takes into account how many years away from the majors a player is, as well as his upside. Besides basic statistical comparisons, age versus competition level is an important factor in the analysis. Projected position is also given significant weight.
